What
is Phenylalanine?
Phenylalanine (pronounced fee-nul-AL-uh-neen) is an essential
amino acid that occurs in two forms: L-phenylalanine and
D-phenylalanine. The "U' form is the one found naturally
in proteins and the "D" form is the man-made,
laboratory-produced version. Research on the benefits of
phenylalanine has used both versions, and sometimes a combination
of the two, known as DL-phenylalanine.
